Autumn and Birthdays

Autumn is definitely here--at least where I live. Much cooler days. Way cooler nights. Colorful trees. Leaves blowing across my driveway and crunching under my feet like cornflakes.

There's lots to love about autumn around here, but I don't love it--because I love summer so much, I suppose. The colors even look like this in my backyard (this photo was taken off my deck), but I still don't love autumn.

Autumn is, however, the season of my birthday.

And my birthday is tomorrow!

I tell you that because a wise friend once told me, "On my birthday, I am Princess for the Day. If I don't celebrate, who will?" And ever since then, that's what I am on my birthday. Princess for the Day. Celebrating the time I've been given, the life I've been allowed to live, and looking forward to what else is to come.

What about you, do you celebrate your own birthday?

Proudly growing older,

  1. Well, happy birthday!!!!

I have to say I love autumn. It's my favorite season. I've always been grateful my birthday is in it and I love having friends who's birthdays are in the best season too! There's something special about autumn and the people who are born then!

  2. Great way to think of your birthday. I'll have to try that. I usually have to work that day, but am grateful if I don't have to cook. Happy Birthday!

  3. Here autumn's almost over, with cold and snow in the forecast. It is sad to see the green summer fade away so abruptly. I hope you have a wonderful birthday! Mine's next week :)

  6. Everyone should be a Princess for the day at same point. Enjoy! My autumn is almost non-existent because I'm too far south, but I loved it when I was up north (not for the cold) but for the colors, the apples, hiking without mosquitoes, hot chocolate, and campfires.

  7. I completely agree, birthdays a time to treat oneself. Enjoy! Where I autumn is a relief from the summer heat. No frosts yet, but cooler nights. It's winter I'm not fond of....

  8. Yay, Barbara! Happy, happy birthday :) I love the idea of thinking of ourselves as princesses (or princes!) for the day. I think that right now with my girls being so little and being VERY excited for their birthdays, by the time my birthday rolls around I just like a small, quiet celebration. I also finally understand what my mom used to tell me when I was a kid that the presents that are made really are the most special. Hope your day is wonderful!

  11. Happy birthday! And I love, love, love autumn. I'm not too fond of summer though, which happens to be when my birthday falls, on the first day of summer actually. But I do celebrate, because I LOVE my birthday. :)

  12. Your bday popped up on FB when I was up at midnight:-) Hope it's a good one . . . as for celebrating, my daughters wouldn't let me get away with not partying, even though I haven't aged a year older since I was eighteen (maturity wise at least)~Cheers!

  13. Happy birthday, princess! ;)

BTW, that picture you took is so pretty! The leaves never change colors where I live. I'm still impatiently waiting for cooler temperatures. XD

  14. Happy Birthday, Barbara! (Now that it's almost over; glad I caught this post in time.) Birthdays are wonderful. You should celebrate every one. Growing older may not be fun, but it beats the alternative.
